Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” didn’t rank as the biggest guilty pleasure of the last 10 year (i.e. the song people most erased from their listening histories) — that was Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” But I think this little bit of information tells you a lot about Postal Service. When they announced the reunion, so many people had stories about the one time and place when Postal Service was most important to them. I don’t know of many records that connect that much to one breakup, one death, one long road trip. Maybe all this skipping means people don’t want to re-live those moments; that in helping someone “get through” one bad experience, they’ve lost their usefulness.
Who knows what this means for the reunion. Fields full of people remembering their worst breakups after drinking all day sounds terrrrible.
