Last night we spent Christmas evening at the Village Vanguard — first visit. Back when I actually devoted time and effort to playing an instrument I was super into jazz, so it was pretty amazing to see Cedar Walton in person (with David Williams and Willie Jones). Here’s Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers playing Walton’s “Ugestsu.”
This is what I did for Christmas with Mark. Willie Jones III is my cousin’s husband and a cool dude, and was sampled on a Kendrick Lamar track in 2012.
